January 3, 2022
Happy New Year! As we start 2022, we are all facing the challenge presented by the COVID Omicron variant. Unfortunately, we have experienced an increase in cases amongst our workforce during the last week of the year. However, due to our stringent surveillance testing, we have identified these cases and kept our residents healthy and safe.
When I think back to this time last year, we entered 2021 with so much hope. The newly approved vaccine was in the early stages of being rolled out. For so many of us, this was the antidote to all our COVID problems. A year later, we know that the vaccine hasn’t cured us from COVID, but it has provided additional protection from exacerbated symptoms and hospitalizations.
Amongst our Caring Place facilities, we have a vaccination rate just over 80%. That is not enough. We continue to speak one-on-one with our team members to encourage them to take the vaccine. I will not give up hope that we can persuade 100% of our workforce to take the vaccine. Until then we will maintain our vigorous testing cadence twice a week (or more if needed). Furthermore, we will continue to be vigilant about always wearing PPE.
I am so hopeful for 2022. We will continue to have COVID in our lives, but we are learning to live more safely with it. My prayers for this New Year are that each of you have a happy, healthy, and joyous New Year. We look forward to seeing visitors and team members interacting and partnering together to improve the care of our residents.
Thank you for the honor, privilege, and trust that you bestow upon us to care for your loved ones.
