Palliative Care vs. Hospice

Palliative Care vs. Hospice

Two of the many services offered through Caring Place Healthcare Group are Hospice, and Palliative Care.  We’ve found that many people have questions about what palliative care is and how it differs from Hospice. With the information below we hope to clarify the services and diversities between Palliative and Hospice so you can make informed decisions to move forward with the best choice for you and/or loved one.

What is palliative care?

According to the World Health Organization “Palliative Care is an approach that improves the quality of life of patients and their families facing the problem associated with life-threatening illness, through the prevention and relief of suffering by means of early identification and impeccable assessment and treatment of pain and other problems, physical, psychosocial and spiritual.”

What is the difference between palliative care and hospice?

The most important difference between these two services involves life expectancy, and the severity of illness.  Hospice is for those facing terminal illness, and is focused on pain management.   Palliative care is focused on reducing symptoms, maintaining quality of life, and fighting a life threatening illness. With a full understanding, Palliative Care which helps patients facing difficult health care and life decisions and Hospice services for end of life care, can complement each other offering tranquility to patients and their families.

Both of these care programs share the fact that they are in place to maintain the quality of life for patients, and offer complete support in their difficult time.

Caring Place Healthcare Group offers these programs to the fullest extent possible.  Our skilled nurses are here every step of the way for treatment, pain management, and support.  We want to give all of our patients a smile and positive mindset to continue pushing forward each and every day.  For assessments, tours of our facilities or any other questions just visit our website.  We’re honored that you would consider us to be of assistance and look forward to helping you in your battle.
